This page will be where various items will be placed depending on the classes currently being taught.  It will have information on making various modifications.  New items will be added as the need arises.

How do I change margins to APA standards?

  • To find your margin settings, open each document, click on "File" at the upper left hand corner, and then selecting "Page Setup".
  • The Page Setup window then pops up separately.  (Please view the attached screenshots)

Where can I find the reason for extra spaces between paragraphs ?

In all probability you have something other than a O in spaces before or after the paragraph.  To check--go to FORMAT menu and the select Paragraph--check to make sure that under the Spacing Area-- before and after you have a zero (O) entered--not Auto or something else.  See the screen shots below.

How do I create a Page Break ?

This is one of the easier things to do in MS Word...first go the INSERT command and from there select the Break submenu---then select Page and one will be inserted in your document at that point.  It will stay unless you remove it and whatever you have at the top of the page remain at the top.  See the screen shots below:

What is a "hanging indent"? How do I create one?

A hanging indent is an indentation that is on the second and subsequent lines of a listing...not on the first.  It is most often used in creating reference lists in APA style.  See the examples below on how to create one.

What are ALT codes ?

These are the codes useful when special characters need to be made.  They are formed by using the ALT key and numbers from the keypad (not the keyboard numbers)  The table shows all of the various symbols (including the normal keyboard ones) and their ALT code. The most often used are highlighted. (There are also Character maps  which will do the same thing--this is just a little easier.)
